The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) of the University of Luxembourg has established a Consumer Law Clinic, the first European clinic exclusively dedicated to consumer law that is open to the public.
Affiliated with the Master in European Business Law, the clinic employs an innovative teaching approach modelled on the American system and tailored to the Luxembourg context. Second-year master’s students receive training in legal advisory practice, which includes direct interactions with real consumers seeking advice. This programme allows students to tackle complex legal issues in collaboration with a professor, an Associate Professor in Psychology, and members of the Luxembourg Bar Association.
The Consumer Law Clinic team is comprised of Master 2 Students in Law, practicing lawyers and academic staff. Coordinated by Prof. Elise Poillot, the clinic can assist clients in disputes with Luxembourg-based retailers in amounts up to €5,000.
While the Clinic cannot offer legal counsel, they will study one's case and provide expert information to help one find a solution.
The clinic runs from 20 October to 20 December this semester.

What is a law clinic?
Law clinics seek to fulfil a twofold goal: first, to provide practical knowledge to law students; second, to support users by offering free orientation and information, which helps empower different disadvantaged communities. Their pedagogical, hands-on approach allows legal students to deal with real cases, while being fully supervised and guided by teachers and practitioners.
