Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) has announced that Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel recently spoke with its students in Differdange.

According to MUDEC, the Prime Minister spoke candidly with the students during his hour and a half visit about his life, his political career, the importance of family, friends and being happy.

The students showed engagement and asked questions ranging from which world leader surprised him in a positive or negative way and what he will do after he is no longer Prime Minister to what is his favourite place in Luxembourg and what he is currently reading.

Inspiring is the word most students used to describe the visit. Luxembourg's Prime Minister encouraged them never to give up, to change their job if they are not happy with their situation and passionate about the work they do and noted that for him, being gay is not difficult, accepting himself as being gay was the hardest part. He also said that while being gay is not a choice, being homophobic is.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel expressed his admiration for Americans for their willingness to try new things and fail. He noted that one learns a lot from failure and many American trailblazers credit failure to their success. The enthusiasm he shared about many regions in Luxembourg was also contagious and several students discussed wanting to see those places before they depart for the United States, including the Mullerthal region, Esch-Belval and Luxembourg City.

The Prime Minister's visit ended with some photos and he took several selfies with students who thanked him for his visit and asked more questions as he was leaving.

MUDEC has been bringing American students to study in Luxembourg since 1968. It is named after Ambassador John E. Dolibois, a Luxembourger who immigrated to the US after the last pandemic in 1931 and who served as US Ambassador to Luxembourg from 1981 to 1985.
