Luxair and lux-Airport have issued a statement in relation to the global IT outage that occurred on Friday 19 July 2024.

A major IT outage affecting Microsoft and CrowdStrike servers have disrupted various sectors, including airlines and airports.

While Luxembourg Airport's own systems remain unaffected, according to the statement, several airlines operating from Luxembourg have reported operational issues.

Luxair confirmed that airport operations in Luxembourg are continuing as usual. However, the online and offline booking systems have been unstable, which may have impacted the ability to make or modify reservations. Luxair assured that its technical teams, along with those from partner organisations responsible for addressing this technical issue, were working "diligently" to resolve the situation "as quickly as possible". Passengers are advised that while the situation in Luxembourg remains stable, some destination airports may experience more significant disruptions, potentially resulting in flight schedule modifications and delays.

Lux-Airport noted that it is actively managing the effects on affected airlines and service providers, particularly Ryanair which has encountered system issues, requiring Luxair Ground Handling to manually check-in and board passengers for flights to Malta, Seville, Lisbon and Milan-Bergamo. Additionally, Turkish Airlines flights TK1356 from Luxembourg to Istanbul and TK1355 from Istanbul to Luxembourg have been cancelled.

While there are no confirmed impacts on other airlines at this time, there may be additional delays and cancellations. Luxair and lux-Airport advised passengers to check their travel plans with their airlines and monitor for updates through their chosen contact channels.

In a separate statement, the CSSF, Luxembourg's financial regulatory authority, noted that it had been made aware of the major outage linked to a CrowdStrike update on Windows.

The Computer Incident Center Luxembourg (CIRCL) has published a technical report on this subject, including recommendations, available at: https://circl.lu/pub/tr-87/.

The CSSF "strongly" recommended all supervised entities concerned to duly note this report and to take action "as appropriate".
