Luxair has confirmed that, following the thick fog in London throughout much of Friday, and in particular on Friday morning, it was able to ensure that all passengers returning to Luxembourg in the morning could do so.
Due to challenging weather conditions and heavy fog, London City Airport was closed for much of Friday.
On Friday morning, the Luxair Luxembourg Airlines team drew up an alternative plan to guarantee an operation to London and a return of passengers to Luxembourg. All passengers concerned had been contacted immediately to inform them of the necessary measures. For reasons of congestion at other London airports, the airline felt it was necessary to organise the transfer of the passengers from London City to Luton; this airport was the only alternative that offered the necessary conditions for take-off and landing.
The airline organised a Boeing 737 to fly to/from Luton, instead of the Bombardier Q400 turbo-prop that serves the Luxembourg-LondonCity route, ensuring that all passengers could travel on the one flight.
Even if the weather conditions caused delays, all Luxair passengers were able to reach their destination. Luxair was one of the few airlines among all those that normally serve LondonCity that were able to transport its passengers to arrive at their destination.
