Danish transport and logistics company DSV Panalpina A/S has expanded its charter flight network to combat capacity shortages; the first new route began at the end of February with a weekly service from Luxembourg to Brazil.

Three new routes have been added to the DSV Air Charter Network in an effort to combat the continuing lack of capacity affecting both air and sea freight. The first began on Sunday 21 February 2021, with a weekly service from Luxembourg to Guarulhos in Sao Paulo, Brazil offering 100 tonnes of capacity per flight.

Yesterday, Monday 1 March 2021, saw the launch of a new weekly Rockford Airport, Chicago, USA – Shanghai, China roundtrip connection, again with a 100-tonne capacity offer in both directions.

From Thursday 1 April 2021, four weekly Luxembourg and Johannesburg, South Africa direct rotations totalling 150 tonnes of capacity will complete the new service offer which connects five continents and attempts to offer some kind of stability in an otherwise still volatile pandemic environment.

Mads Ravn, Head of Global Air Freight Procurement at DSV, commented: “We know a lot of customers struggle with a tremendous amount of uncertainty and a general lack of capacity. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continue to provide new solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic for them”. He continued: “We see cargo congestion at both seaports and airports around the world, hence it’s crucial that we seek to find alternative solutions. I am very pleased that we keep expanding our international air charter services. The aim is to offer more flexibility and security of cargo freight which is crucial and sought after by our many customers”.

DSV utilises leased and chartered aircraft to guarantee its customers timely uplift capacity. The company has reiterated that its Air Charter Network is optimised for handling priority, express air charters and special shipments.

DSV either charters entire aircraft or arranges part-charters. This happens on both a scheduled and ad-hoc basis. Building on its large presence at Luxembourg Airport, DSV has an agreement with Cargolux, ensuring that space is always available for its customers’ shipments. Similar contracts have been signed with United States capacity provider Atlas Air, as well as some of the largest operators in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.
