On 20 and 26 November 2020, Luxembourg's Environment Agency and the Grand Ducal Police carried out road checks on heavy goods vehicles and vans on the N31 in Pétange.

The aim of these checks was to monitor compliance with national and international legislation on waste transportation. Such checks may include the inspection of documents, confirmation of identity and, if necessary, physical or chemical control of the waste being transported.

Agents and officers observed a total of 50 infractions and issued 45 fines. Infractions concerned load securing, social regulations and the absence or non-compliance of the accompanying documents required during the transport of waste.

These checks help ensure the prevention and detection of illicit transfers, guarantee the good management of hazardous waste and optimise waste treatment processes.
