Yesterday marked the symbolic handing over of the first few business licences for zero-emission taxis in Luxembourg.
On 8 December 2016, the Luxembourg Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, handed over the first 18 business licences for zero-emission taxis to the concerned taxi owners.
The law from 5 July 2016 regarding the organisation of taxi services foresaw the annual provision of 20 zero-emission taxi licences. For the year 2016, 38 requests were put forward since the law came into force on 1 September 2016.
During yesterday’s ceremony, François Bausch thanked the taxi owners for their contribution to a more sustainable form of mobility and noted that, in addition to the uniform labelling of taxis and more strict controls, the introduction of zero-emission taxis will help improve the sector’s brand image.
The Minister also recalled that 20 new business licences for zero-emission taxis will be put on the market from 1 January 2017. Requests for these licences will be dealt with according to which arrive first.
Finally, François Bausch highlighted that, in this context, the fiscal reform coming into force on 1 January 2017 will initiate a sustainable mobility allowance of €5,000 for any individual who purchases a zero-emission car, regardless of what it is used for.
