The City of Luxembourg (VdL) has announced the Special Needs Awareness Actions 2026, which will take place between Saturday 25 April to 10 November 2026.
The seven-month programme will include information stands, demonstrations, workshops, song and dance performances, meetings, conferences, meals in the dark, guided tours and more. Through this initiative, the City, together with more than 90 partners, aims to raise public awareness and encourage dialogue with those with special needs, in order to better understand the daily lives and needs of those affected, thus promoting better living together based on mutual understanding.
The comprehensive programme includes:
“Special Needs” Sports and Action Day:
On Saturday 25 April a Special Needs Sports and Action Day will take place on the Place d'Armes in Luxembourg-Ville from 11:00 to 18:00. There will be stalls, activities, demonstrations, various workshops, an art exhibition and conferences (Cercle Cité Auditorium). Admission is free and open to all; booking recommended for the Express Zichelchen by email at travcom@asti.lu.
The 2026 edition will include a new feature, an exhibition of artists with specific needs organised with Info-Handicap and the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque. Linked to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December, the “Create the Messenger of Inclusion #LëtzBreakBarriers” competition resulted in twelve works by people with disabilities in Luxembourg, focusing on inclusion, diversity and accessibility. The exhibition will run from Saturday 25 to Wednesday 29 April 2026.
In addition, ASTI will organise the “Express Zichelchen” at 13:00 at Place des Bains, an awareness initiative featuring themed carriages involving blind and deaf participants as well as members of the public.
Dining in the dark:
During the dinners, participants will be guided through their meals by visually impaired people. The dinners take place from 19:00 to 20:00 on the following dates:

Museum Days:
On Friday 16 and Saturday 17 May, themed guided tours and activities adapted for deaf or hard of hearing people, blind or visually impaired people and those with intellectual specific needs will take place at the Villa Vauban and the Lëtzebuerg City Museum. Roll & Run:
The eighth edition of Roll & Run will take place on Saturday 16 May from 17:00 to 21:00 at Champ du Glacis. The inclusive race is organised as part of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg.
Inclusion Gala:
The tenth edition of the “Inclusion” Gala will take place on Saturday 5 June from 19:00 to 22:00 at the Cercle Cité. The programme will include dance, music, theatre and poetry, followed by a reception and a walking dinner. Free booking is required before Friday 29 May.
Accessible Guided Tours:
Accessible guided tours organised with the LCTO will take place on Saturday 20 June and Saturday 4 October from 15:00 to 17:30, starting at Place Guillaume II. The tours will combine walking routes with public transport such as the panoramic lift, funicular and tram. Literary Events:
A family reading with Eugénie Anselin, with sign language interpretation, will take place on Saturday 1 August at 11:00 at Place St Ulric.
A “Mardis littéraires” event will take place on Tuesday 20 October at 18:30 at the Lëtzebuerg City Bibliothèque.
