On Saturday 16 and Saturday 30 November 2024, the Luxembourg-African Dance Association, Altercadance, will host workshops of African dance, percussion and song in Esch-sur-Alzette (Bâtiment 4, 66 Rue de Luxembourg).
The African Tales Festival involves two days of meetings, conducted through French and Luxembourgish, that combine music and dance with national and international artists. There will be opportunities to experience moments with a master storyteller and international entertainer who has the art of spreading African wisdom.
African tales are an oral literature where proverbs, riddles, enigmas and sayings are often found.
The workshops include tales, music, dance and readings (which include drums, dance and painting) as well as a storytelling masterclass.
The art of speaking in traditional African society is about empowering the individual, ensuring the harmony of the group and preserving the balance of society. The tale is the reflection of the society of mutual aid, solidarity and above all justice. It is the witness of social life. Tales convey educational values and expose daily problems.
The programme will run from 13:00 to 17:00 on 16 and 30 November and again on Saturdays 7 and 21 December. Free food and drink will be provided.
Entry costs €5/person.
