On Thursday 24 August 2023, the Commercial Union of the Ville de Luxembourg presented details of the Luxembourg City Braderie 2023, which is taking place on Monday 4 September 2023, from 09:00 to 19:00.
The press conference was held at the cocktail bar Shinzo, in the presence of Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Mireille Rahmé-Bley, President of the Commercial Union of the Ville de Luxembourg (UCVL), Maurice Bauer and Patrick Goldschmidt, Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg, and Anne Darin, Director of the UCVL.
The 94th edition of the Braderie will take place in the upper town district as well as in the Gare district. It is a traditional event taking place before the start of the school year, enabling visitors to make good deals with attractive discounts on items from old collections but also to discover the autumn’s new collections.
Mireille Rahmé-Bley expressed delight at this “lasting tradition” and noted that this year, special efforts were made to make the event more attractive for families, with entertainment “for all ages and all tastes.” She noted that 241 local merchants will participate, over a total of around 1500 m of stands. Political parties, non-profit organisations and around 20 food stands will also be available. The Braderie on Monday will be preceded by offers on Saturday and Sunday, as well.
Various activities will be available in different places in the city, such as games for children, skateboard, basketball, lego workshops and more.
Alderman Bauer noted that this day will also be an occasion to discover the city, as the Luxembourg City Tourist Office will organise free guided tours, the Lëtzebuerg City Museum will exceptionally be open and entry will be free; the Villa Vauban and Badanstalt swimming pool will also be free of charge on the day. A game contest will also take place, with over €4000 worth of gifts offered by the city’s retailers.
Alderman Goldschmidt discussed mobility for the event, emphasising that it will be guaranteed to get to the event and back home, despite a limitation of traffic. He advised visitors to use public transport or to use the P+R parking available if coming by car and he stressed the importance of checking online for bus stop modifications, as some will not operate on the day. Certain parking lots (such as “Place de l’Europe” and “Fort Wedell”) will be free on the day of the Braderie, or will offer a certain number of hours free parking (“Fort Neipperg”). The tram will run as usual.
Mayor Polfer highlighted the importance of maintaining certain "roots" through tradition, while being open to modifications and changes that can lead to improvement. She wished the Braderie organisers great success and for the visitors to make good bargains.
