On Wednesday 23 August 2023, the 683th edition of Luxembourg’s Schueberfouer officially kicked off, inaugurated by the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer, in the presence of Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, and Max Hahn, Luxembourg's Minister for Family Affairs and Integration, amongst other dignitaries.

As per tradition, sheep adorned with tricolour ribbons were marched through the fairground, accompanied by musicians performing the "Hämmelsmarsch" to announce the beginning of the funfair. This year, musicians from the Harmonie Municipale Luxembourg and Limpertsberg brass band performed. The group of dignitaries, joined by a large crowd of people from all walks of life, proceeded on a tour of the grounds and rode several traditional amusement rides, such as the carousel and the ferris wheel. At the end of this tour, traditional ham and cake were offered at the Restaurant “Kugener”.

"Lämmy", the official lamb mascot of the capital's funfair was also present on this tour and, will be part of the major competition organised by the National Federation of Fairground Traders (FNCF), allowing visitors to win various prizes including trips to amusement parks. The winners will be drawn on Thursday 7 September 2023 at 18:00 at the entrance gate (Rond-point Schuman, Entrance “E1”). The participation forms for the competition will be made available to visitors in the Schueberfouer’s various restaurants.

As every year since it was founded by John the Blind in 1340, the long-awaited funfair is now ready for guests of all ages to visit for fun-filled amusement rides, games, shopping stands and traditional foods. The Schueberfouer will be available for 20 days from Wednesday 23 August and until Thursday 11 September, with a total of 211 establishments participating this year. The fair will be open daily from 12:00 to 01:00, with food establishments having the possibility of opening their doors from 11:00.

On the last day of the Schueberfouer, 11 September, from 12:00 until 20:00, prices will be reduced to half for all gaming establishments and rides across the entire fairground. A fireworks display will take place on the Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte at 22:00 and the Schueberfouer will officially close.
