BLC Car Boot Sale;

Registrations are now open for anyone wishing to secure a spot at the British Ladies Club of Luxembourg's (BLC) Car Boot Sale, which is taking place on Saturday 13 May 2023 at Parking Adenauer in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Chronicle.lu had the opportunity to speak with Enid Isaac, who is responsible within the BLC for organising this popular annual fundraising event, ahead of the new edition.

Chronicle.lu: Please tells us about any changes/novelties for this year's BLC Car Boot Sale and perhaps what next year's 30th anniversary edition might look like.

Enid Isaac: This year, our very own BLC CBS [Car Boot Sale] stand will be selling scarves, jewellery, handbags, puzzles and non-fiction books such as cookbooks, gardening and DIY books. It should be a treasure trove of goodies. We also have some really great ideas "cooking" for the 30th CBS edition, but can't release any details just yet. Suffice to say, you won't be disappointed.

Chronicle.lu: For the past few years, the BLC Car Boot Sale has been held at Parking Adenauer instead of the traditional Glacis venue. Have there been any challenges associated with this change of venue, e.g. in terms of the number of cars/visitors (passing trade)?

Enid Isaac: There's no doubt that the change of venue from the Glacis to Parking Adenauer has meant that we are no longer as visual, so publicity is key. Our CBS installation at the [Lëtzebuerg] City Museum has helped to raise awareness and we are hoping to see higher levels of participation as a result. We have printed over 700 flyers which various institutions will be distributing including St George's International School and the Luxembourg Tourist Office. And we do provide transportation in the form of a wonderful red, double-decker bus to ferry passengers backwards and forwards from the Glacis, which has proved immensely popular over the years.

Chronicle.lu: Please tell us about any other/new challenges you may be facing with the organisation this year, e.g. have you noticed any trends post-COVID? Are there any issues regarding running water and toilets at Parking Adenauer?

Enid Isaac: We have experienced no real challenges to speak of. Toilets are always provided and running water is replaced by bottled water with a minimum of inconvenience.

Chronicle.lu: Are there any plans/hopes to (permanently) change the location of the event in future? Could this be an opportunity for the BLC to examine the format of the event and innovate going forward?

Enid Isaac: We have discussed alternative locations as Parking Adenauer won't be available to us forever. That said, we do have it booked for this year's event which is great for consistency and means people will know exactly where to find us.

Chronicle.lu: Finally, what are your hopes for this year's event?

Enid Isaac: Great weather, great turnout and plenty of interaction with the public seeking surprising treasures not found in-store.

For booking enquiries, contact the organisers at email: carboot@blc.lu. The cost is €25 for paid-up members and €30 for non-members; payments should be made by 1 May 2023 to the BLC account: BCEE LU59 0019 2855 9485 5000 with the reference "CBS [and the participation number which is approved upon one's application]".
