The Institut Pierre Werner (IPW) is organising a conference on the "gilets jaunes" movement and the role of the media on Friday 1 February 2019 at 19:00 at Neumünster Abbey.

The event features interviews with journalist Florence Aubenas and Gaston Carré on the current political situation, including the recent "gilets jaunes" movement, and the role of the media in the citizen debate.

Between 1986 and 2006, Belgian journalist and war reporter Florence Aubenas worked at "Libération", where she made her first major reports. Her stories covered major events, including those in conflict zones in Rwanda, Kosovo, Algeria, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as resounding lawsuits in France. In 2005, during a report in Iraq, Aubenas was taken hostage and lived in captivity for several months. In 2009, she moved to Caen and conducted a long investigation on precarious workers in France. In 2012, she joined "Le Monde" and covered the Syrian conflict as a special envoy.

Florence Aubenas will discuss current politics with France-born Gaston Carré, who has been a journalist at the "Luxemburger Wort" since 2005, is an editorialist in international politics and the author of a book on Islamist terrorism.

This conference will be held in French.
