Former world No. 1 tennis player Victoria Azarenka has announced that she may no longer be able to participate in any upcoming tournaments, not excluding the BGL BNP PARIBAS Luxembourg Open 2017, due to family issues.
The 28-year-old Belarusian professional tennis player and former world No. 1 initially confirmed her participation in the upcoming BGL BNP PARIBAS women’s tennis championship, but has now revealed that this may no longer be possible due to family commitments.
The tennis star gave birth to her baby boy Leo last December, but has since separated from the child’s father and has found it challenging to balance child care and her tennis career. She commented that whilst her love of tennis is strong, her son is her number one priority, adding that: “I am being very flexible and doing everything I can to play the US Open but unfortunately receiving a lot of unreasonable push back.”
Indeed, whilst the tennis champion singled out the US Open, should neither of Leo’s parents be able to be present during upcoming tournaments, Victoria Azarenka has been unable to guarantee participation in any tournament in the short-term, meaning she may no longer be able to compete in the Luxembourg Open.
