On Monday 30 June 2025, Luxembourg’s top tennis player Chris Rodesch made his Grand Slam main draw debut, competing in the first round of Wimbledon in London.

The 23-year-old faced former ATP Top 20 player Cristian Garin (ATP ranked #110). This marked Rodesch’s first meeting with the 29-year-old experienced opponent from Chile.

Garin ultimately secured a straight-sets victory, defeating Rodesch 7-6(8), 6-4, 6-4. The Chilean proved more consistent in key moments. While Rodesch matched his opponent in aces (six each) and hit more winners (32 compared to Garin’s thirteen), he also committed a higher number of unforced errors (38 to Garin’s sixteen). Rodesch struggled on second serve, winning just 47% of points compared to Garin’s 66%, and failed to convert any of his three break point opportunities. In total, Garin won 108 points to Rodesch’s 92.

As a result, Luxembourg’s top tennis player, ranked 166th in the ATP rankings ahead of Wimbledon qualifying, exits the tournament in the first round. However, Chris Rodesch’s performance has boosted him by more than 20 places, now reaching a career-high 145th.
