2016 saw Luxembourg's female tennis professional, 31 year-old Mandy Minella from Esch-sur-Alzette, finish #105 in the ATP world rankings, thanks to two tournament wins in Albuquerque (New Mexico, USA; $11,400), in September, and in Bol (Croatia; $20,000) in May - she also won two doubles tournaments - plus $76,646 for a 1st round win at Wimbledon in July and $42,540 for reaching the 1st round at the US Open in August.
Mandy Minella starts 2017 off in Auckland, New Zealand, for the ASB Classic tennis tournament (WTA International from 2-14 January 2017). Earlier today she beat Canada’s Françoise Abanda 6-4 1-0 (retired) in the first round of qualifying. Mandy is ranked as WTA #105 in singles and #126 in doubles. She is also slated to play in the Australian Open with the draw to be announced on 13 January and play starting on 16 January.
In the men's tournament scene, Luxembourg's 33 year-old Gilles Muller is ranked #34 by the ATP in singles and #153 in doubles after a successful 2016 with a 35 win : 24 loss record.
Gilles Muller is currently in Brisbane, Australia, for the Brisbane International (ATP 250 - 1-8 January 2017). Gilles is also slated to play in the Australia Open in January and the 2nd edition of the Garanti Koza Sofia Open (ATP 250 tournament - 5-12 February 2017) in Bulgaria.
