Luxembourg humanitarian support organisation, emergency.lu, has deployed to Nigeria to help re-establish communication services in parts of the country mired in ongoing conflicts, establishing free broadband connectivity for humanitarian organisations on the ground.
Telecommunications facilities in the north have been severely damaged as a result of persistent violence in the north of the country, hampering coordinated humanitarian efforts carried out by WFP, humanitarian organisations and the Nigerian Government.
Brought in at the request of the WFP, emergency.lu says that as from 12 February, their mobile satellite telecommunication system has been operational at the International Humanitarian Partnership (IHP) base camp in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
emergency.lu provides emergency communications and coordination support services to humanitarian organisations around the world, with current missions in Mali and South Sudan.
