Luxembourg POST has announced that, to mark the transition from 2015 to 2016, their mobile network customers sent fewer Happy New Year text messages than when welcoming in 2015 a year ago. However, the number of such messages sent via mobile Internet continues to rise.

On the two days of 31 December 2015 and 1 January 2016, the total number of SMS was 2.4 million, a decrease of 13% from New Year's Eve (2014-15).

The decline in the number of SMS was again offset by an increase in mobile data traffic: 22 terabytes of data were exchanged all networks (2G, 3G and 4G) against 18 terabytes a year ago.

An increasing number of people also used other instant messaging services and social networks to transmit their good wishes.
