Deloitte Luxembourg recently opened a new Japan desk that will cater for Japanese companies outside of Japan addressing the Luxembourg and European markets.
The Japan desk is Deloitte’s response to the increasing amount of Japanese investors considering Luxembourg as the gateway to their European or even global operations.
“The idea is to feed Japanese companies with an increased level of business insights tailored to their specific context and needs, to help them further develop their activities in Luxembourg and Europe”, stated Laurent Berliner, Partner and Governance, Risk & Compliance Leader at Deloitte Luxembourg. “The Japan desk will be a formal platform to intensify the interactions between the Japanese and Luxembourg offices and further develop our long-standing relationship with the Japanese business community in Luxembourg.”
Deloitte has been servicing Japanese companies for several decades in all its scope of expertise including Audit, Tax and Consulting. The new desk at Deloitte Luxembourg complements the work of the Japan Service Group (JSG). Deloitte developed the JSG in 1975 to meet the needs of multinational companies worldwide.
“The 3,400 employees of the JSG, including 400 Japanese colleagues, combine our extensive experience and knowledge about client service together with a careful consideration of Japanese culture and customs. With our new local desk we aim to address these important considerations with a global perspective that has been accumulated over years of experience,” explained Johnny Yip, Audit Partner and Investment Funds & Hedge Funds Leader at Deloitte Luxembourg.
The opening of the Japan desk was celebrated with around 80 people from the Japanese business community in Luxembourg, including Her Excellency Mrs Atsuko Nishimura, Ambassador of Japan to Luxembourg.
The Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu network, part of whose origins lie in the land of the rising sun, has a long-standing history with Japan, where Tohmatsu Aoki & Co was founded in Tokyo in the 1960s.
