On Sunday 10 May 2026, the Youth Team of Swimming Luxembourg secured second place at the 33rd edition of the SL Synchro Cup Open, an international artistic swimming competition held at the pool of Campus Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg-Merl.
From Friday 8 to Sunday 10 May 2026, the competition brought together more than 200 athletes from nineteen clubs representing seven countries: the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Finland and Romania, with the latter two nations making their debut appearances at the SL Synchro Cup Open. Organised by Swimming Luxembourg, the event featured swimmers competing in the Youth (thirteen to fifteen) and Junior (sixteen to nineteen) categories across solo, duet and team disciplines.
For Youth athletes from the participating countries, the competition also served as preparation for the upcoming European Aquatics Youth Artistic Swimming Championships, which is scheduled to take place from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 June 2026 at the Coque National Sports and Culture Centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
“This year, we had the Czech Republic national team here and, for the first time, the Luxembourg national team competing at our event in the Youth Team discipline. Our team finished in second place, which is a very good result for us. In general, our results as a club improved, so we are very, very proud of that,” stated Sonja Tholl, Coach and Assistant to the Organiser of the SL Synchro Cup Open, in an interview with Chronicle.lu.
She added that most of the club’s Youth swimmers are also members of the Luxembourg national team and will compete at the European Championships next month alongside athletes from another Luxembourgish club.
