Luxembourg sent a team to the European Short Course Swimming Championships, which are taking place from 2 to 7 November 2021 in Kazan, Russia.
On the first day of the swimming meet, organised by the European Swimming League (LEN), Luxembourg's Max Mannes set a new personal best in the 50m backstroke. In the second of four heats, the 23-year-old touched the wall after 25.29 seconds, thus beating his 2019 best time of 25.41 seconds.
"The time gives me confidence for the 100m backstroke on Thursday", he said after the race .
Fellow Luxembourger Julie Meynen competed in the 50m freestyle sprint. The 24-year-old finished in 20th place after 24.81 seconds, at the same time as Sweden's Sarah Junevik. Moving into the semi-finals was within reach, with a 24.75-second finish needed - exactly Julie's best time (and national record). The 100m freestyle race will continue on Thursday.
In the 400m freestyle, Pit Brandenburger failed to finish in under 04:02.41 minutes.
