Luxembourg swimmer Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri has set a new national record at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Rome, which are taking place from 6 to 11 July 2021.
Today, on the second day of the Junior European Championships, Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri set a new national record (50.03 seconds) in the 100 m freestyle event. The 18-year-old managed to beat Julien Henx's old record (50.06), which was set at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, by three-hundredths of a sceond.
Ralph Daleiden Ciuferri, who is a member of the Swimming Luxembourg (SL) club, qualified third for the semi-finals in the evening (18:00).
Shortly after, fellow Luxembourg swimmer Joao Carneiro competed in the 200 m medley event. With a time of 02:06.73 minutes, the all-rounder narrowly missed his best time of 02:06.42 minutes from April this year.
On Tuesday, Lou Jominet swam a new season best of 09:19.86 minutes in the 800 m freestyle event.
A total of 565 athletes from 48 nations are fighting for best times, titles and medals at the Stadio Olimpico del Nuoto in Rome until Sunday.
