On Wednesday 11 March 2026, the Fédération des Industries Luxembourgeoises (FEDIL) presented the results of its biannual survey “Future Skills in Industry”, which provides an overview of skills needs and recruitment forecasts in industrial companies in the Grand Duchy over the next two years.
The presentation took place in the presence of Claude Meisch, Luxembourg’s Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Stéphanie Obertin, Luxembourg’s Minister of Research and Higher Education, and Marc Spautz, Luxembourg’s Minister of Labour, as well as the survey partners.
Conducted among FEDIL member companies, the survey aims to identify the profiles that will be in demand in the short and medium term and to help align education and training with the needs of industry. The initiative primarily targets young people, their parents and career guidance professionals to support informed study and career choices.
The 2026 survey recorded 3,027 recruitment forecasts over two years, including 1,715 new positions (56.7%) and 1,312 replacements (43.3%), confirming a positive turnaround after the slowdown observed in the previous edition.
These recruitment intentions represent an increase of 53.65% compared with 2024. They were expressed by 92 companies employing 42,397 people, representing the largest workforce ever covered since the survey was first conducted in 1998.
According to the survey, the recruitment needs are mainly concentrated in industrial and process-related professions, with 1,518 positions expected. Other sectors include construction with 590 positions, IT support with 394 positions, administrative support with 387 positions, transport with138 positions
FEDIL noted that the predominance of job creation, including in sectors facing a difficult context such as construction, reflects a genuine need for new skills and an ongoing transformation of professions.
Industrial professions alone account for more than half of the expected recruitment, with 1,518 positions, including 866 new jobs, nearly three times the levels recorded in 2024.
According to the report, IT support roles continue to play a key role in the digitalisation of companies, while administrative professions remain in strong demand due to increasing requirements related to compliance and reporting.
The survey showcased a growing demand for higher-level education. Bachelor’s degree holders represent 34.6% of expected recruitment, a significant increase compared with the previous survey. This is followed by the Diplôme d’Aptitude Professionnelle (DAP) at 28.2%, while technician training accounts for 12.4%.
This ranking reflects an increase in the qualification level of profiles sought, combining technical, digital and transversal skills, commented FEDIL.
The survey was conducted in collaboration with several institutional partners: the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, House of Training, the Maison de l’orientation, the Ministry of Research and Higher Education, and the Employment Development Agency (ADEM). It forms part of the HelloFuture initiative by FEDIL, which aims to promote technical and scientific professions among young people.
