The 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) published by the ShanghaiRanking consultancy positions the University of Luxembourg in rank 601-700 among the top 1,000 universities in the world.
ShanghaiRanking aims to establish the quality of teaching, the quality of research as well as the impact of an institution by using multiple criteria including publications, citations and awards. More than 2,000 universities have been ranked by ARWU this year and the best 1,000 were published.

201-300 in Electrical and electronic engineering
201-300 in Computer science engineering
401-500 in Materials science engineering
301-400 in Human Biological Sciences
201-300 in Biological sciences
201-300 in Education
201-300 in Political sciences
401-500 in Psychology
301-400 in Management
301-400 in Economics
In 2019, the ARWU had ranked the University of Luxembourg 701-800 among the top 1,000 universities in the world.
