On Saturday 5 June 2021, around 3,500 participants took part in the 12th edition of the "Nuit du Sport" (night of sport).

The initiative was first launched in 2009 by the National Youth Service (Service national de la jeunesse - SNJ) and Luxembourg's Ministry of Sport as part of the national action plan “Gesond Iessen, Méi Beweegen” (eat healthily, move more). Its objective is to allow participants to discover new sports disciplines and find a taste for physical activity and movement.

Apart from more traditional sports disciplines, the activities offered during the “Nuit du Sport” are characterised above all by their originality and their intergenerational character. The participants, who came from all walks of life, were drawn into a 100% active and inclusive whirlwind that encouraged them to (re)discover a taste for physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

In the midst of a period of uncertainty and health restrictions throughout the planning phase for this year's edition, seventeen municipalities and organisers were keen to follow the national call to join the initiative and offer an evening of original sports activities. In total, some 60 different sports disciplines were organised by youth centres, organisations, sports clubs, childcare structures and municipal services.

The 2021 edition took place in the following municipalities: Bissen; Clervaux; Contern; Feulen; Kayl; Kopstal; Esch-sur-Sûre (site: Lultzhausen); Luxembourg; Manternach; Mondorf-les-Bains; Pétange; Roeser; Sandweiler; Schengen; Schieren; Schifflange (digital edition); Schuttrange.
