On Wednesday 7 October 2026, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) officially inaugurated a new temporary sports hall in Luxembourg-Dommeldange.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, members of the College of Aldermen and Municipal Council, as well as representatives of the project partners.

According to the VdL, the new facility was built to ensure the continuity of physical education classes and sporting activities during the redevelopment of the existing school complex on Rue Nicolas Hein in Dommeldange. The new school complex is scheduled to open at the start of the 2030/31 school year.

The temporary sports hall comprises a sports hall area of 647.04 m², including a 506.77 m² hall, as well as changing rooms, showers, sanitary facilities and equipment storage areas. The building has a total net floor area of 918.25 m².

The facility also includes covered bicycle parking near the main entrance and an energy-efficient ventilation system with heat recovery. The building meets the AAA energy standard and is equipped with energy-efficient lighting and occupancy sensors.

Originally planned as a temporary facility during the school redevelopment, the hall is also intended to help address the shortage of sports infrastructure and meet the needs of various sports federations in Luxembourg.

Construction of the sports hall at 85 Rue du Château began in September 2025 and was completed in September 2026. The project has an approved cost estimate of €8,160,567.26, including fees and taxes.
