Luxembourg's Minister of Sport Dan Kersch held a press conference this afternoon on the impact of the new COVID-19 restrictions (still being discussed in Parliament) on the sports sector.

The minister explained that, unlike during the first wave, physical education in schools will not be cancelled. Nevertheless, he reiterated that the goal of the government's measures was to reduce social contacts to a minimum.

Concerning restrictions on sports club activities, Minister Dan Kersch said that the various sports would receive health guidelines to be implemented by the teams themselves. He confirmed that a maximum of four people, excluding the coach, will be allowed to train together without restrictions. Coaches must wear masks during training sessions, whilst athletes are not required to wear masks when exercising.

The Sports Minister also confirmed that a maximum of 100 spectators will be allowed at sporting events. Spectators must be seated, except during outdoor competitions, respect a two-metre interpersonal distance unless they are from the same household and masks must be worn at all times. Food and drinks will no longer be sold during events.
