The Greek cinema club (Ciné-club hellénique de Luxembourg) has announced that it is screening the documentary Laughing in Afghanistan at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg later this month.
The screenings will take place on Tuesday 20 February 2024 at 19:00 and on Wednesday 21 February 2024 at 21:00. Laughing in Afghanistan (Greece, 2023, 90 min, colour), directed by Anetta Papathanassiou, will be screened in the original Greek and Arabic version with English subtitles. The film is not suitable for children under the age of sixteen.
Synopsis: Karim Asir, the Afghan Charlie Chaplin, in the midst of bombs and disasters, gives performances using laughter as his only weapon. When the Taliban take over, Karim is threatened with death. After a series of adversities, he manages to arrive to Greece. The documentary follows his life adventure, and through his story, explores the issue of laugher - in Afghanistan and beyond.
Tickets can be purchased at the cinema 30 minutes before the screenings (cash only) or via Luxembourg Ticket. Tickets cost €6 for club members and €12 for non-members.
