The Japanese Palm d'Or Winner "Shoplifters" by Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda is to be screened at Cié Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg accompanied by sub-titles in English.

As non-French speaking cinephiles may be painfully aware, Luxembourg city's arthouse cinema Ciné Utopia is not usually offering international films with English, but rather with French and Dutch, sub-titles; in the case of French-language films, there are no sub-titles at all.

The reason is that the distributors who service Luxembourg are within the Kinepolis Group headquartered in Belgium, and they do not usually make extra prints (DCPs, to be exact) with English subtitles. However, the English-speaking community in Luxembourg continues to grow steadily, with the demand for English-language film sub-titles growing.

This coming week, "Shoplifters" will have at least three screenings with English sub-titles. The screenings are preliminarily scheduled for Wednesday 12, Friday 14 and Sunday 16 December at 19:00 - check www.kinepolis.lu to confirm.

Synopsis: The film is the story of a family of shoplifters, where however the definition of "family" is lovingly questioned. It is also nominated as best foreign language film at the forthcoming Golden Globes.
