The US Ambassador to Luxembourg Randy Evans yesterday announced funding for the University of Luxembourg's "Scienteens Lab - De Labo Fir Jonker".
Developed in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg's Office of Fundraising, the US Embassy grant will support an intensive, week-long Scienteens Academy from 8-12 July 2019. In addition, the U.S. Embassy funding will assist with ongoing costs associated with operating the Scienteens Lab.
A group of student "Scienteens" and their teachers welcomed the funding news announced during the inauguration of the US Embassy's Annex facility, which has been dubbed the "Space Annex" or "SpaceNex". The facility hosts a virtual reality system equipped to focus on space exploration including a simulation of the Apollo 11 moon landing, artifacts from past NASA missions, images from the Hubble telescope and live video feeds from the International Space Station and the NASA channel.
The Academy, conducted in English, will be open to students at schools throughout Luxembourg. More details on the Embassy supported Scienteens Academy can be found at: https://wwwen.uni.lu/lcsb/scienteens_lab/scienteens_academy.
Led by Dr. Elisabeth John, the Scienteens Lab - De Labo fir Jonker is the first research lab for secondary school students in Luxembourg.
