The Royal Hamilius real estate project has welcomed Decathlon into its range of retail units, along with Galerie Lafayette, Fnac, Proxy Delhaize and a number of other boutique shops which have already opened; it opens to the public tomorrow, Wednesday 3 February 2020, at 10:00.
The Decathlon City store at 10A Rue Aldringen occupies 630m2 surface area, with the entrance on the plaza at level 0, and most of the store on level -1. Accessibility is straight-forward as it is on the edge of Luxembourg city centre's pedestrian zone, the LuxTram stops just outside on Bld Royal, and the spacious Royal Hamilius underground carpark has its main pedestrian entrance around 50m from the store's entrance.
The official opening was undertaken outdoors, due to COVID-19 restrictions, with Luxembourg City Mayor, Lydie Polfer, joined by aldermen Patrick Goldschmit and Maurice Bauer, who each took turns in throwing basketballs into the store's entrance.
The store's concept is that of a boutique rather than a department store, and it focuses on a stock of sports wear and fitness wear (running, swimming, futsal, tennis, fitness, urban mobility, hiking, etc.), as well as a small range of bicycles, etc.. However, it is promoting the concept of "Click & Collect", meaning that shoppers can order online from www.decathlon.lu (linked with the entire Decathlon range housed at their BeLux distribution centre) and then pick up their purchases at the Decathlon-City store, or have them delivered to their homes.
The store employs a total of eight staff who also offer services including bicycle repair (and tennis racquet stringing).
Karine Blanc, Director of Decathlon Luxembourg, stated “Thanks to direct contact with our Luxembourg sports customers, we will develop our product and service offering to meet their needs. We are especially looking forward to sharing sporting moments with them”.
Stefan Schins, Development Manager of Décathlon Luxembourg, stated "Imagine your Decathlon and all its services from a department store in the city centre in a tailor-made store with all the different sports offers at your fingertips. It will be the Decathlon City Luxembourg."
Thierry Behiels, Chief Executive Officer at Codic International, developer of the Royal Hamilius project, stated "We are happy to integrate sport in the city centre, to complete the commercial offer and thus be a formidable vector of dynamism and capture for the city. We are looking for a quality offer for Luxembourg and are committed to Royal-Hamilius welcoming new brands. The arrival of international brands such as Galeries Lafayette, Fnac and today Decathlon demonstrates the interest that Luxembourg arouses abroad by becoming a real place of destination and influence."
