On Tuesday 1 December 2020, the Ville de Luxembourg together with the UCVL (Luxembourg city commercial union), announced and presented details of the new cityshopping.lu platform, a digital showcase promoting local trade in the context of the health crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the platform, dedicated to shopping in Luxembourg-ville, has been in existence since 2009, it has now been completely redesigned and equipped with new features to meet the new needs of residents and visitors to the capital, as well as those of traders who now have their own digital showcase.

To mark the occasion, the visual identity of the platform has been given a makeover. This now reflects the very essence of the platform, namely information, highlighted graphically by the "i's" linked together by a line which materialises the characteristic stroll of shopping in the capital. The platform's interface is presented in bright colours, without being too feminine or too masculine, thus creating a dynamic and welcoming environment.

The new cityshopping.lu platform is now open to all merchants in the capital, whether or not they are members of the UCVL, who can keep their own pages updated on the new platform which covers services offered (wifi, click & collect, tax free, PRM accessibility, delivery at home ...), opening hours, location or payment methods accepted in shops. Other innovative features are the integration of social media - the latest posts on Facebook and Instagram - in the digital store windows as well as the display of products that the brands offer on the Letzshop.lu online sales platform.

The platform is equipped with a powerful search engine that allows searches by brands or according to a variety of other filters and criteria. The platform also provides information on the bus lines that serve the nearest stops as well as the availability of car parks located near the shops.

Revitalisation of trade

In spring 2020, the Ville de Luxembourg announced a range of aid for trade measures in the context of the health crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, €4 million was disbursed in the form of subsidies and an additional €1,086 million was distributed to businesses that took part in the "direct voucher" action. Finally, the overhaul of the cityshopping.lu platform, the cost of which amounts to €156,944 including tax, aims to support businesses in the medium and long term by improving their online visibility.
