Cycles Arnold Kontz, the oldest bicycle shop in the Grand Duchy, has returned to its roots by reopening its store in the Luxembourg-Gare district.

Having been located for the past decade on Route de Thionville, Cycles Arnold Kontz recently relocated to Luxembourg-Gare, the district where its activity began 103 years ago. The new store officially opened at 3 Rue de Strasbourg on Thursday 27 February 2020, in the presence of the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer.

With its new location come other novelties: Cycles Arnold Kontz has set up a first integrated Bianchi concept store, the first of its kind in Central Europe. A large bicycle workshop has been installed to offer an unequaled service to all cyclists wishing to have their bicycle (whatever the brand) maintained and / or repaired. The new shop has also introduced a sophisticated ID Match measuring device to perform postural studies to support advanced and professional cyclists in their choice of bikes and equipment in order to improve their posture and maximise performance.

In addition, the new Tacx “treadmill” demonstration allows visitors to the shop to experience different real-life races and stages of the big Tours on screen in order to optimise training in a fun way.

The store also incorporates an “AKOR café & cycles” cafe, named after the AKOR brand (an acronym for Arnold Kontz Räder). Hot drinks, soft drinks and a selection of snacks such as salads, sandwiches, pies, cakes and cereal bars (including 100% gluten-free options and organic products in collaboration with the Luxembourg producer Cereal Lovers) will be available for cyclists and non-cyclists alike.

Regarding the choice to return to the Gare district, the shop owners explained that the station area has changed dramatically in recent years, becoming a very lively and trendy district. The investments currently made by the State and the City of Luxembourg are expected to further accelerate the hype around this rapidly changing district with the arrival of alternative and trendy shops and restaurants.

Cycles Arnold Kontz offers the following products: electric bikes; mountain bikes; racing bikes; children's bikes; folding bikes; city bikes; cargo bikes; motorcycles and scooters; clothing; shoes; helmets: panniers; bike carriers; and all types of bicycle and motorcycle accessories. As a specialised bicycle store, Cycles Arnold Kontz officially represents, among others, the following brands: Bianchi, Chike, Conway, Frog, Gazelle, i:SY, Peugeot, Tern and Victoria bikes; Brooks, Sella Italia, Shimano, Campagnolo, Sram, Look, Ortlieb, Abus, Schwalbe, Michelin, Hutchinson, Kask, Tacx, Thule, fi´zi:k, Lumos and Furygan accessories; and Peugeot scooters.

With a commercial area of 600 m2, the new store is located in a 1930s Art Deco Building at 3 Rue de Strasbourg, L-2561 Luxembourg. The relocation and renovations lasted just over two years and were carried out under the direction of architects Yvore and Jo Schiltz. The shop currently employees twelve people (among the 200 employed by the Arnold Kontz group at present).

Cycles Arnold Kontz has been managed by the same family in Luxembourg for over 100 years.
