On Saturday 15 June 2024, Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) played their last senior men's club game of the year, a head-to-head shootout against RSV Köln to determine whcih team would gain promotion to the Bundesliga Division 1 for next season.

RCL prevailed 33-14 to seal promotion and a return to the top German league. 

The Bundesliga Division 2 play-off match was played at the Stade Boy Konen in Luxembourg-Cessange in windy conditions. 

The match was a physical affair with RSV Köln taking the lead 0-3 with a successful penalty kick, after missing a couple of earlier such chances. Half-way through the first half the game was paused for around 15 minutes after an injury to one of the visiting players which was brought to hispital by ambulance with a broken leg. 

While RSV Köln scored anothe rpenalty shortly after play resumed, RCL scored the first try of the game, courtesy of Jacob Fawsett who touched down. Casmier Yandall slotted the conversion kick home to put the home team in the lead for the first time in the game, 7-6. 

The visitors were not shaken and their determination saw them score a try of their own, although the conversion was missed, for them to take a 7-11 lead by the time the referee blew for half time.

Jacob Fawsett scored his second try of the game shortly after the resumption, with Casmier Yandall scoring his second conversion. 

RSV Köln levelled the scores 14-14 with another penalty kick.

However, that was the last time the visitors got on the scoresheet as xxx, Robin Dex and Maxime Kenens scored three unanswered tries for RCL to finish out the game worthy 33-14 winners.
