On Friday 24 January 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture announced that the Government Council (cabinet meeting) decided to propose the appointment of David Weis as Director of the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA), to Grand Duke Henri.

David Weis, born on 4 October 1984, is a Luxembourg diplomat. A graduate in European studies and ancient civilisations, he studied at the University of Oxford, the College of Europe in Natolin, the University of St Andrews in Scotland, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Eberhard-Karls-Universität in Tübingen. Since August 2023, he has held the position of Deputy Director for Political Affairs and Director for Multilateralism, the Americas and Eastern Europe at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. He has previously served in Strasbourg (Council of Europe), Brussels (European Union) and New York. He is expected to succeed Foni Le Brun-Ricalens as of 1 February 2025.

The Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, said that he would like to "thank Foni Le Brun for his commitment and passion for architectural heritage throughout his term. The appointment of David Weis reflects the spirit of continuity of this work, while further developing INRA's services for future opportunities in this field."

Following the entry into force of the law of 25 February 2022 on cultural heritage, the National Centre for Archaeological Research (CNRA) has become the National Institute for Archaeological Research (INRA).

INRA is responsible for the inventory, study, protection and enhancement of Luxembourg's archaeological heritage.
