LuxRED has announced it has concluded a collaboration contract with Shell in order to develop the surrounding area of the Dommeldange petrol station.
As part of a programme called Shell Go Vertical (SGV), the multinational organised a call for applications in order to promote the constructive potential existing above most of the petrol stations in their network. The first file under study was that of the petrol station located at 2 Rue de Beggen in Dommeldange.
The project is based on the creation of an overhanging slab which covers all the functions relating to the operation of the petrol station (pumps and store) to allow the development of a residential project without interference with the activity of Shell.
Regarding the signing of this collaboration contract, Olivier Bastin, Founding Partner at LuxRED, said: “This project is completely in tune with the times. In order to meet the growing need for housing in the Grand Duchy without covering the Luxembourg countryside with concrete, new solutions must be put in place. Exploiting buildable areas located above already built-up land in an urban environment is an intelligent response to a problem that is both ecological and economic.”
Aurélie Frédureau, Founding Partner at LuxRED, added: “This project confirms what we are deeply convinced of: the real estate sector must reinvent itself. We are delighted to work with Shell on an innovative concept which aims both at a virtuous densification of the existing urban fabric, and the production of a quality housing supply.”
Pol Christophory, Managing Director at Shell Luxembourg, concluded: “Shell is very happy with the collaboration with LuxRED for the redevelopment of the Dommeldange station. With this project, we can respond to new mobility behaviours, while contributing to the creation of quality housing in the capital by using space optimally.”
