Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, has reported that travel disruptions are expected to and from Germany due to a rail strike.
Amid the strike announced by the German union Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivführer (GDL), disruptions are expected for the circulation of trains on the railway axis to and from Germany (Line 30 / Axis: Luxembourg - Wasserbillig - Trier). From the morning of Wednesday 10 January until 18:00 on Friday 12 January 2024, no trains will cross the German-Luxembourg border.
In order to limit the impact on trains continuing to operate on the Luxembourg rail network, particularly between Luxembourg and Wasserbillig, the CFL has made adaptations to its staffing plans. Nevertheless, certain trains to and from Wasserbillig will be cancelled during the announced strike period.
Two out of three trains per hour will continue to run between Luxembourg and Wasserbillig in both directions.
Considering the impact of the strike on the turnover of equipment and personnel, the CFL has made additional changes, for example to trains headed in the direction of Wittlich and Koblenz in Germany, as of Tuesday 9 January 2024.
Further information (including public transport alternatives) is available on the CFL website: https://www.cfl.lu/ and the CFL mobile application.
