Luxembourg's railways, the CFL, has warned of potential delays and cancellations on the rail network after a fire evacuation at Luxembourg Central Station (Gare).

This afternoon at around 14:00, a fire alarm went off in part of the Central Station. As required by CFL security procedures, the entire station building was evacuated and rail traffic was stopped on platform 3.

Whilst no one was injured in the incident, the CFL reported that cancellations and delays are to be expected on the rail network. Analyses are underway to determine the cause of the triggering of the alarm.

Further information on timetables and alternatives are available on the CFL mobile application or the website www.cfl.lu.

Update: The Grand Ducal Police reported that firefighters localised and extinguished a smoldering fire in a basement window on platform 1. Residual rubbish had accumulated there, possibly ignited by a discarded cigarette. Afterwards, access to the main station was reinstated.
