On Friday 19 July 2019, a bus and tram collided in Kirchberg.

The accident happened shortly before 09:30 on the junction of Boulevard JF Kennedy and Avenue Alphonse Weicker, just outside the Auchan supermarket.

The impact of the collision meant that the tram was derailed and the bus was hurled onto the pavement where it damaged a traffic light, a street sign, a tree and a parked motorcycle.

The tram was carrying around 40 passengers at the time of impact, while there just a few passengers on board the bus - the exact numbers are missing due to the fact that the passengers had already left the accident site before the rescue workers arrived.

As a result of the accident, both drivers were slightly injured. A passenger sitting in the front of the tram was also injured. Two more people were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Outside the two vehicles, there were no casualties.

Traffic was disrupted until almost 11:00 while the salvage operation could be undertaken. A shuttle service between the Foire and the National Library was put into operation by LuxTram which continued to operate full services between the new National Library stop and the western end of the tram tracks at the Place de l'Etoile.

LuxTram confirmed that normal tram services resumed on Friday at around 16:00 along the full length of the service.
