On Wednesday 8 January 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth announced the temporary suspension of the activities of the youth theatre group affiliated with the Lycée Hubert Clément secondary school in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The ministry reported that, at the end of October 2024, the management of Lycée Hubert Clément became aware of a testimony alleging reprehensible conduct with sexual connotations that allegedly took place during an activity organised by the non-profit organisation in charge of the school's youth theatre group.

In order to protect young people and in accordance with its legal obligations, the management immediately forwarded the information to the public prosecutor's office. The judicial investigation to verify the veracity of the reported facts is currently underway.

Pending the closure of the judicial investigation and in order to protect the interests of all stakeholders, the activities of the theatre group have been suspended and the supervising teachers are exempt from their duties. The ministry assured that the operation of the secondary school is not affected and the organisation of activities will continue as usual.

The ministry added that, amid the ongoing investigation, neither it nor the management of Lycée Hubert Clément are able to provide further information or comment further on the situation at present.
