Last week, 10 to 16 January 2022, 2,888 pupils in primary schools in Luxembourg tested positive for COVID-19, according to data compiled from Luxembourg's Ministry of Health.

The 2,888 positive cases represented 5.7% of the total 50,890 pupils in public and private primary schools under the national curriculum.

The positive cases include PCR tests and antigen tests carried out at school or at home.

The 2,888 cases are representated across the fifteen primary school directorates in Luxembourg. In terms of percentages calculated, 2.62% (65 pupils) under the Echternach directorate was the lowest rate and the highest rate of 9.96% (483 pupils) was recorded for the Luxembourg directorate .

These percentages are calculated with respect to the number of students in each directorate in the 2019/2020 school year.

Since the beginning of the school year on 15 September 2021, a total of 16,673 people, including teachers and support staff, have tested positive in the Luxembourg education sector so far. This includes 10,171 people in primary schools, 6,470 in secondary schools and 32 in skill centres.

The total 10,171 positive cases in the primary schools represent 17.8% of primary education under the national curriculum has tested COVID-19 positive in the past eighteen weeks.
