The Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg's parliament) has reported that Luxembourg MPs are commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp.

Monday 27 January 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the camp's liberation by the Red Army. Luxembourg MPs from all parties represented in the Chamber of Deputies commemorated this historic event by once again participating in the #WeRemember memorial campaign.

The Chamber of Deputies recalled that more than a million people died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp built by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. It was the largest complex of its kind set up under the National Socialist regime. It was created and placed under the command of Heinrich Himmler, the "Reichsführer" of the SS (Schutzstaffel), head of the Reich police and secret police.

The World Jewish Congress (WJC), in collaboration with UNESCO, launched the #WeRemember campaign in 2017. The aim of this initiative is to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and remind the world of the consequences that can result if hatred is allowed to spread freely.
