On Wednesday 5 July 2023, Xavier Bettel, Luxembourg's Prime Minister, welcomed Luca Beccari, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of San Marino, at Hôtel Saint-Maximin in Luxembourg-Ville for a working visit.

This meeting followed a visit by Xavier Bettel to the Republic of San Marino on 27 October 2023 and, according to the Ministry of State, confirmed a continued positive state of bilateral relations and cooperation in the multilateral field between the two countries.

At the centre of this meeting was the progression of the negotiations in progress for the definition of the association agreement between the Republic of San Marino and the European Union.

Prime Minister Bettel assured San Marino's Secretary of State of Luxembourg's full support for the best definition of an agreement which, for the Republic of San Marino, will be of historic importance. He continued by emphasising that it is important "to strengthen bilateral relations through even greater coordination, particularly in international forums".

"The meeting with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg," said Secretary of State Beccari, "emphasises the strong interest in maintaining collaboration at the political-institutional level, so that more rigorous forms of cooperation can be jointly identified in the bilateral and multilateral domains. The Republic of San Marino and Luxembourg are today even closer and more supportive and support each other in the main challenges that unite us today.”

The college of aldermen in the City of Luxembourg also welcomed Secretary of State Beccari to the City Hall to discuss current regional and international developments. Luca Beccari’s visit to the City Hall ended with the presentation of a gift and the signing of the guestbook.

In 2025, Luxembourg and the Republic of San Marino will celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations.
