Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has announced that Minister Jean Asselborn expects Luxembourg's presence on various lists concerning travel restrictions, to be lifted shortly.

The epidemiological figures published yesterday by the Luxembourg Ministry of Health show that the number of COVID-19 cases in the Grand Duchy are falling sharply, confirming the trend of recent weeks. With 47.44 newly infected residents per 100,000 inhabitants over the period from 3 to 9 August, the number of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants set by the German authorities has clearly been reached and passed.

Minister Asselborn has today written to his German counterpart, Heiko Maas, in order to explain the latest developments in the number of infections in Luxembourg and to point out the large-scale tests that allow at-risk contacts to be recorded as quickly as possible, thus effectively breaking chains of infection.

In his letter, Minister Asselborn emphasised that, according to the criteria set by the German authorities, there is no longer any basis for classifying Luxembourg as a risk area. By referring to the "significant restrictions on freedom of movement between Luxembourg and Germany resulting from the current measures", Minister Asselborn expressed his expectation that the classification of Luxembourg as a risk area and the associated test and quarantine regulations, as well as the travel warning, will be lifted as soon as possible.
