On the proposal of Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke has reorganised the ministerial powers relating to Defence and Internal Security.

In this context, François Bausch, Deputy Prime Minister, will keep the portfolios of Mobility and Public Works and that of Defence, whilst Henri Kox will take full responsibility of Internal Security matters, alongside his Housing remit.

As a result, the two ministers will lead their respective ministries in their own right; there will no longer be a delegate minister. It is expected that this reshuffle will allow both ministers to have a better distribution of powers and a greater focus on their respective fields.

François Bausch commented that he had exercised his mandate as Minister of Internal Security with great pleasure. He thanked the entire team of the ministry, as well as the Grand Ducal Police and the General Police Inspectorate for their dedication and commitment.

According to Henri Kox, having served as Minister Delegate for Internal Security (since October 2019) has enabled him to familiarise himself with the various dimensions of police management and the General Police Inspectorate. He added that he was determined to continue to advance current cases with the greatest diligence, in particular massive recruitment within the police force, the modernisation of the police infrastructure and the implementation of the overhaul of large police files prepared by outgoing Internal Security Minister François Bausch.

A draft law relating to this reshuffle will be submitted to the Cabinet in September 2020.
