On 7 December 2016, the Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, took part in the Open Government Partnership Global (OGP) Summit in Paris.
At the request of the French President François Hollande, Xavier Bettel participated in the OGP 2016 Global Summit yesterday. The OGP is a multilateral initiative aimed at mobilising governments to take a measurable commitment to promoting transparency, dialogue with citizens, and proper governance which fights against corruption, especially through the use of new technologies.
Xavier Bettel announced during his speech at the summit that “the principles outlined in the declaration for an open government have been present in my government’s programme since 2013.” He then highlighted that “public action implemented by the state should be understood and supported by all citizens.” The Prime Minister explained that this is precisely the reason why the Luxembourg government took the decision to join the OGP.
At the end of his speech, Xavier Bettel gave President François Hollande, the co-president of the OGP, a letter declaring Luxembourg’s intention to join.
