The 4th annual Schools Cup will set sail this Saturday 26 March from Luxembourg, direction Bormes les Mimosas in Var on the French Riveira for its 4th edition.
This year, the group comprises a total of 132 participants, out of which 97 are students aged 14 - 19 and 26 are skippers and co-skippers. They will sail 16 monohull yachts from 38ft to 50ft, with the event also availing of 1 committee boat - a Lagoon 400 with 7 committee members on board -and one RIB (250cv, with 1 skipper and 1 co-skipper). This totals 132 persons altogether.
The group will depart from the marina of Bormes les Mimosas early morning on Sunday 27 March for a week sailing, 2 legs per day and up to Bandol: the return will bring them to Porquerolles island and back to the departing marina on Friday 1 April.
Nights will be spent at anchor, sleeping onboard the vessels, with meals prepared and eaten onboard as well, provisions delivered, including fresh bread every morning. The group will also enjoy two dinners in marinas restaurants, one in Porquerolles will be the closing dinner.
The participating students will be taught to sail a “habitable” boat; also, this year, they will also be taught waterskiiing - a big surprise that will be unveiled at the welcome drink on Saturday evening.
Among the participating schools this year are the European Schools from both Kirchberg and Mamer. They are being joined by students from the Athénée, Ermesinde, Lycée Classique de Diekirch and others.
