The Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles ar now over and Team Luxembourg is on its way back to the Grand Duchy after an impressive showing including number personal bests and a haul of 28 medals (7 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze).

The highlight of the last day was undoubtedly the half-marathon race on the beach in Long Beach. Among the 19 participants there were two runners Luxembourg, with both Eike Schroder and Ronny Kontz delivering excellent results: Eike Schroeder ended the race in 7th place overall (1'37''34) and won bronze in his group, with Ronny Kontz finishing 11th (1'45''55), improving his personal best by more than 10 minutes and ensuring he reached the highest podium in his class.

Luxembourg won bronze in an exciting relay race in the pool, the 4x25 metre freestyle. The table tennis doubles team achieved a win against Belgium, and won bronze. After bronze in the tennis doubles there was silver for Kelly Toex and bronze for Jeff Lazzarini. The Boccia doubles saw Luxembourg achieve 4th place. In gymnastics, Lynn Streitz and Myriam Beckius took away 5 medals, with Lynn Streitz claiming 3 gold medals.

On the last day of competition there was silver for Danielle Scheer and Laurent Praus, both in the shot put, as well as for Nicole Lydorf over 200 metres. The basketball players were subject to a good performance against Peru and came away with bronze. The football team claimed 5th place, the only discipline in the Luxembourg team to come away with a medal.
