After more than a decade, Salif Keita is making his long-awaited return to Luxembourg.
Philharmonie Luxembourg has confirmed that the Malian singer will perform on the stage of the venue's Grand Auditorium on Thursday 22 May 2025 for an intimate acoustic performance.
Known as the "Golden Voice of Africa", the legend of Western Africa's Mandingue genre is one of the leading figures in contemporary African music and is known for his advocacy for the inclusion of people with albinism.
Having begun his career in the 1970s with the renowned Malian band Les Ambassadeurs, he progressed into a successful solo career in the 1980s with iconic albums, such as Soro, propelling him to international fame. With international success throughout the following decades, his blending of traditional Mandingue sounds with modern influences such as jazz, funk and electronic music has seen his music explore universal themes such as love, identity and solidarity.
Although Keita announced his retirement from the music scene in 2018, he returned to the stage in 2023 and now, in 2025, is embarking on a tour supported by an acoustic quartet. The tour will promote the release of his highly anticipated new album, So Kono, which will be released in March 2025 on the No Format label. The album was recorded in a matter of days in a hotel room in Japan during his participation in the Kyotophonie International Photography Festival in 2023.
Philharmonie Luxembourg has announced that those who had purchased tickets for the cancelled performance of French vocalist Camille and the Phuphuma Love Minus choir at the venue on Sunday 23 February 2025 can use their tickets to gain entry to the Salif Keita concert on 22 May.
Tickets for Salif Keita go on sale from Thursday 6 March 2025. More information can be found at: https://www.philharmonie.lu/en/programme/2024-25/salif-keita-000000e9001abf36
