The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they will carry out checks focused on distracted driving, from Monday 19 June 2023 to Thursday 29 June 2023.

According to the Grand Ducal Police, distracted driving is one of the primary causes of traffic accidents. Sending messages, using apps or social media puts considerable strain on the driver's attention span. A smartphone can distract the driver's attention both visually and auditorily, physically and cognitively.

This is why the use of cell phones by the driver of a moving vehicle is governed by article 170bis of the Highway Code. Road users who do not comply with these provisions risk warnings will be charged €145 and the loss of two points.

However, activities other than the use of a mobile phone, such as the lighting of cigarettes, the manipulation of on-board instruments or the navigation system and even conversations using a hands-free kit are sources of distraction. In this context, the police offer a range of information and security advice on their website.

Moreover, distraction does not only affect motorists. Others road users, such as motorcyclists, cyclists or pedestrians may equally be affected.

In an information and awareness-raising approach, advice and practical information on distracted driving will also be disseminated on the police's social networks in the coming days.

As is customary at traffic checks, vehicle papers will also be checked in the context of this campaign. As a reminder, drivers must have and be able to present the following documents:
